Velvet Buzzsaw (2019)
Velvet Buzzsaw is a drama/thriller movie directed by Dan Gilroy. It is about a mysterious artist who was found dead by a gallery assistant, Josephina(played by Zawe Ashton). The mysterious artist was found out to be Vetril Dease. She then finds his art pieces and has them being shown in the Haze Gallery. Those who tried to profit off of Dease’ artworks would be murdered.

Vetril Dease was a murderer and was also held in psychiatric care for many, many years. He wanted all his pieces to be destroyed. In my opinion, art is evil in this film. Whoever attempted to benefit of his art pieces suffered consequences.
This movie says that critics will critique and review any piece even if when not appropriate. For example, Morf Vandewalt, a critic, was so focused on writing a book about Dease’ art pieces.

This movie also shows a lot about artists. It shows that some artists create pieces of what they feel or what they have possibly been through in life. Vietral Dease had a rough and problematic past. The staff of the Haze Gallery seemed to not really care about art but just the benefits that they receive. It shows that some artists just want to express what is within and not always want recognition or money.
The world of art is seemed to be unique and very powerful. Every piece of art sends some sort of message to someone. Dan Gilroy made the people in the art world portray to be shallow. He is trying to send the message that people are only wanting the benefits for selfish reasons from selling art.

Each of the characters that were involved in selling Dease’ art for money had all died by the end of the movie.
